Welcome to the Gaming page of Cecil Con 2017. We’ve been working very hard to expand this section of the convention to make it more prominent and comfortable for our gamers. What does that mean? It means we have larger gaming areas for our attendees! Ideally (for Cecil Con 2018) we want to have a massive area of the convention dedicated to gaming specifically, but this year, things are a little more spread out.
Looney Area: Tech Center Floor 1
The Looneys are coming to Cecil Con 2017! Looney Labs publishes the Fluxx series of card games… FLUXX has that certain something that makes a game addictive — when it ends, you want to play again immediately, even if you lost. Fluxx (and its various special editions) is the company’s best known product, but they have published many other award-winning games that are just as addictive. Their games include time travel card games and board games featuring Looney Pyramids, innovative pyramid-shaped gaming pieces useful for hundreds of different games. Looney Labs Games are well distributed in specialty game stores.
The company was founded in 1996 by Kristin & Andrew Looney, a husband and wife team that gave up successful careers as aerospace engineers (they met while working at NASA) to pursue their hobby business full time… they could tell early on the true hit potential this little card game Fluxx had, so they took the jump off the cliff and quit their day jobs, so they could dedicate all their energy to making and promoting Andy’s games. Their mission is “To Create Fun”. But it isn’t just that they make fun games… their games create fun times!
Meet the Looneys!
They will have an entire section setup on the Tech Center 1st Floor with lots of games to demo. They are AMAZING and so are their games.
Card & Board Game Area: Cecil College Library
Welcome to the Game Room! In here you will find showcased games, demo games, and open game play areas. All events, tournaments, and game play in this room is being organized by Game Master Matt Lowder. During the convention if you have any questions about card or board gaming you may ask Game Master Matt.
Showcased games are games that are specifically being highlighted at Cecil Con 2017. You will have a unique opportunity to try these games with either their game maker or a representative from their studio. We currently have three showcased games: MajiMonsters, Waracle, and Dethroned.
Open game play is where you are welcome to bring your favorite games from home and play it with friends or you are also welcome to try out any of the demo games provided by Bel Air Games. Been eyeing up a game for a long time but aren’t sure if you’ll like playing it? Take a look and see if Bel Air Games has it for demo, and try it out!
This year’s Card & Board Game Room is sponsored by Bel Air Games from Bel Air, Maryland. They opened in May of 2014 to give gamers of all ages and flavors a large, fun, family-friendly environment for enjoying your favorite games. They strive to present a constantly changing selection of new games and gaming items for your purchase, while stocking your favorites to the best of our ability.
They are bringing a plethora of games to demo with staff on hand to help you learn the game play on the day of the convention. They will also have several games for purchase, so if you really liked a game you played you are welcome to purchase a new copy right then and there.

Enter the world of MajiMonsters. The old Empire lies in ruins. Humanity has been pushed to the brink of extinction by monsters. Humans have one last hope, use monsters to fight other monsters. Take the role of a binder, a human with the power to capture, fight, and train monsters. Use this power to save your fellow man, explore where people dare not tread in centuries, or just to get rich.
Anime and Dice, hosted by Jon Barron (of MajiMonsters).
Learn a little about the history of tabletop RPGs and what systems are good to play anime themed games from a panelist that has 20 years experience playing RPGs and watching anime.
There are countless fantasy games and novels out there. But what do they have in common? Most are inspired by European culture. We decided it’s time to do something new. Waracle was born.
A tabletop storytelling-based roleplaying game, Waracle is all about creating and playing a story together, with unique characters in epic quests against deadly foes and beasts. Inspired by Stone through Iron Age technology, Waracle has global roots: Mesoamerica, Mesopotamia, India, Vietnam, Precolumbian North America, and more. Waracle uses a d10-based ruleset called Classless. Classless is a skill-based system that is quick to learn, but offers plenty of customization for both RPG newbies and vets.
After two years developing the lore and a year designing mechanics, and a year in Alpha testing, Waracle is currently in Public Beta.
DETHRONED, the whole game is a set that comes with 2 decks: Traitors and Kings & Guards and Thieves. Each with their own theme, unique art, and lore. They can be played completely independently up to 4, OR together for up to 8 player chaos and fun! A card game fusing Real-Time combat with the Hidden-Role genre. Simple enough for parties but deep enough for veteran gamers. No turns. No waiting. Just lies and murder!

Welcome to the Video Game Center! In here you will find showcased video games, student games, open game play areas, video game tournaments, and gaming info booths. All tournaments, and game play in this room is being organized by Game Master Shane Welsh. Showcased games are games that are specifically being highlighted at Cecil Con 2017. We currently have two showcased games: Desolus, and various games from Luna Wolf Studios including Haberdashery, Save Samia, and Fungeon Crawler.
Student games are from Cecil College students in the Game Design program. These games are incomplete, maybe only a level or two, and for many, are a first experience with game designing. We encourage attendees to check them out, and good feedback. These folks are taking a chance on something new and pursuing their dream, let’s encourage that.
Open game play is where you are welcome to play at any of the game stations not currently in use during a tournament. Sit down to play against friends and other attendees as you battle for glory and bragging rights.
This year’s Video Game Center is sponsored by Game Master Shane. All tournament prizes are being supplied by him.
Tournaments are arranged by bracket. You can enter the bracket by registering at the link below as well as on the day of the convention from 10-11am. Each bracket is contingent upon how many people register. In order for your tournament to run efficiently we need even numbers of players, if there are not enough people in your bracket, you may be bumped from the tournament. We will inform you the day of the convention. Smash Bros Melee and Street Fighter 5 will be double elimination tournament. Nidhogg and Rocket League will be a single elimination tournament.
Games Tournaments Available:
Nidhogg, Smash Bros Melee, Street Fighter 5, and Rocket League
To register click here. (Rocket League will be added to the site March 12, 2017)
PLEASE NOTE: Even though this is a gaming environment, you need to keep your personal volume, language, and attitude in check. This is a family-friendly event and we had to work hard to be allowed to use this area. There are still classes happening on other levels of the building and we want to insure that we are able to use this space for future Cecil Cons.
